Some issues have been raised regarding adverts and money-making schemes.
Thank you Omanba, thinfox and r for your suggestions.
The Foundation has decided for awhile now not to use adverts on the website for a number of reasons, some of which Thinfox raised. Also, because we are a not-for-profit organization.
Money-making schemes go to supporting mostly our Tsooboi projects, hosting the websites and miscellaneous tasks - most of which come from dues and benevolent members. More info on the members later.
We welcome some sources of cash flow as well.
To help initiate the discussion, am picking out a few comments.
I quote Omanba
But first of all the site needs a change in image. A bit more user friendliness will go a long way. Akuraseni suggested a system where we could see who was on-line, i suggested a chat room and other bits and others brought in ideas but we are still here. The one thing that goes against this site is the coldness and quiteness. No interaction is done here in real time and that is a participation killer and definitely not a crowd puller.
This is one project we can all help fund to cover initial software and admin costs, knowing that it has been money well invested because by so doing we can rest assured that we have helped the site on its way to financial independence and ease the pressure on the pockets of the top hierachy who i am sure make a lot of financial sacrifices to keep things rolling. Anyway just my little 5O cents.

There are plenty of other web sites offering real time communication. Whether real time communication will lead to increased activity remains to be seen. I notice a "who's new" box but see commentary from hardly any of them (nothing to write???). I think a chat room may only be needed for a particular project involving certain members. Organising a group chat is easy, as and when required. I doubt that a permanent chat room facility is needed, but if you are desperate (and know what to do), see below.
I'd like to see ghanaconscious become a bit of a "think-tank", perhaps generating various sources of income via published reports, raising the profile via press releases and continuing the commercialisation of the projects developed from initial ideas here (true intellectual property).
R, can you tell us more about jabber?

Am not R but I can tell you
Am not R but I can tell you about Jabber in 2 sentences.
Jabber is an open protocol for IM. Its has been around for a while and its the technology on which Gtalk is built.
I am not sure what R was implying with the link though.
quick jabber lesson
After you've read an introduction to jabber (!), you can simply connect to the chat room I've created (ghanaconscious@conference.jabber.org). As I've said consistently, I doubt there is demand for such as facility, but it is there nonetheless. The reasons for jabber as opposed to the proprietary protocols are easy to understand.

I updated the settings for svg. Let me know if there is still any problems.
continued svg failure
29-12-08: I would suggest you try yourself, perhaps converting an image to svg using inkscape, draw or imagemagick (the latter quickest via command terminal!)
P.S. Seems ndc destined to mismanage the oil poverty
