The current trend in Ghanaian politics with regards to the TWO MAIN parties can be likened to a parent trying to seperate two warring siblings and getting bruised in the process. A heated argument here, a punch thrown there, accusations flying everywhere and a parent (AN ELECTORATE) caught between the two. Such is the cacophony that whether you support the one and not the other or if you dont belong to either and do not blindly support them either and are prepared to judge them on their merits without any fear or favour then you are certainly going to find it hard to keep up as each faction; from party leaders to supporters are so loud in their bid to be seen as the best and not as biased as the other it is getting deafening and a tad annoying. To quote my dad who shakes his head and sighs everytime he reads or listens to current affairs; it is ''SAY NKOAA and no BUBBLING'' on the National Brewers front. People be grinding axes and sickles and cutting the corn, and then there is a big show of seperating the corn from the chaff but because an ill wind blows over the horizon all the time, chaff stays right where it is and ferments with the crushed grain and what you get is foul brew.
This state of affairs is enough to get any forward thinking Ghanaian to sit back and say that maybe, just maybe it is time Ghanaian youth thought about a third force of movement to cut off the cancerous limbs of governance from these two if 'THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DELIVER' and create a new age of people willing to truely champion the cause of 'Mmoborowa' Ghanaians who year after year pray for a better Ghana, wait patiently in line every 4 years and cast their ballot in the hope of seeing change. A movement that will embrace all walks of countrymen and make sure that the national cake is shared equally between all citizens.
Something we can call our LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT of sorts, and from the flag bearer to the average supporter the code words will be looking beyond tribal lines, believing in National Development devoid of party sentiments and sidelining the interior, applauding and supporting the cause/course of justice, revelling in being a true Ghanaian citizen, becoming one another's keeper and get sick of all the hype.
Infact the NDC this and NPP that is getting really tiresome at the moment and until the two learn to PULL TOGETHER in the knowledge that the electorate come first before party politics and individual agendas then i think the electorate need to SHUN THEM. Things are so distorted that an odd trend has crept up in our society these days with things getting so classified that if you dont come from a certain couple of Ghanaian tribes (you know what i mean) then you basically become inconspicious in the rancid order of doing things because first of all you dont get a chance to sling some mud the other way and you dont get people after your flesh either. It's as if the rest of the other tribes do not exist and have no quota in the order of things as the whole political spectrum has been overwhelmed with glowing accounts of hatred and bully tactics, not to mention the insults from these particular two factions. Add a dash of party politics to it and its a cocktail of tribalism gone bad and waiting to explode. Sickening is the only word to describe it and a disgrace to all who dabble in it.
As if that is not bad enough the act of Governance from the ruling faction to the Opposition have descended into Scandals unlimited, Threatening behaviour, Cover Ups, Anger and Discord, Misappropriation, Disregard and total disunity in the running of state affairs. The one side always claiming to be more pious than the other and the other side giving as good as they get. Noise, Noise, Noise!
Where are the electorate in all of these? Their interests are either being ignored in party political vendettas or they are being used as baits and pawns whichever suits the players that be.
This is creating a disillusioned section of society. There are those who have come through post Independence to date, those who passed through the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90''s and whether they be young or old, they shake their heads in disgust and disappointment with one accord and are all in agreement that things need to get better.
But before this movement can come of age, there is the need for educating the masses with regards to civic affairs as the majority are in the dark and follow things blindly. This is largely what has played to the advantage of those who have taken National affairs for granted and until it is sorted out the majority who always carry the day will also be the misinformed and the disadvantaged. After that there is the need for a unified look at identifying the pitfalls and then a course of action to clear them out.
If on the other hand the afore-mentioned parties should get a wake-up call and be prepared to shake things up and be worthy of their calling, then i guess Ghana wins. Do you think Ghana needs a third and neutral political front? Let the people decide.

Omanba, the CPP and the
Omanba, the CPP and the other Nkrumahist parties dey o.
Or are you talking about a whole new third force?
It's interesting you mention the Ghanaian youth there, do we need a young party?
Paa Kwesi Nduom revitalized the CPP, and it looked like a young party, but as we saw a few years in the limelight can't help you enter the conscience of Ghanaians quickly enough.
Me, I don't know which way to go, I think we really just have to hope for new and better blood in the NPP and NDC.
the destiny of a nation at any given time depends on the opinions and contributions of its young men and women.
NEW MOVEMENT REQUIRED
I dont want to sound ageist or biased in any form against people of a certain generation...its their ideologies and way of doing things that stinks and history has proven that the 'old school' of doing things is not the way forward. Cultural innuendos are always creeping into politics...we are the 'abofras' so our beards and breasts are not properly developed and they are the 'opanyins' with the grey hairs and saggy boobs so that constitute experience.
Yet you and i know that older daddios and big mommas that we keep saluting year after year have not led by example. They are set in their ways. They look at the old CPP photoshoot, the dented NDC trophy, the dusty NPP 'afenakwa' and think of old days gone by and get inspired by those.
Meantime our generation understands that photoshoots on a wooden dais are out and television appearances are in. You and i know that dented Trophys are out and gold star achievements are in. You and i know that a dusty afenakwa is only a relic meant for the wall and that war cries of power to the people are better. Carbon paper is out and no ink on our hands because fax machines are in. Ticking boxes and time sheets are so last season because yes we are in a new age of computerisation.
These are but allusions but what i am trying to say is that people only seem to know just the one set of rules and the same old archaic way of doing things and are reluctant; hell they might even be afraid to embrace new things, new ideologies, new developments and new ways of turning things around and that is where we come in. Out with the old and in with the new.
Yes i am advocating for a new age in politics led by the youth for a change or side by side with the veterans for balance and equality. Afterall, who is looking after our interests in this generation...no one. Do they understand the new world orders and the challenges that we have to live with? No they dont. Are they abreast with our generation and the cumbersome legacies they have left and are still leaving for us to clean up? The race for disarmament, climatic changes, equality issues, world trade focus, scientific innovation, health care for all, human rights issues, feeding and clothing the poor in society, help for our aged and veterans, social welfare issues, crime rates and the infernal energy sources that always dwindle?
Lets face it we are the ones snapping at the heels of the so called experienced people anyway and pointing out their flaws. So we might as well get in there and get a birds eye view of whatever it is they seem to be grappling with which never seems to move.
We are the middle street cliche who have everything to lose in our old age and nothing to offer our parents at the moment to give them some respite and we will have nothing to leave for posterity either if we dont stand up and make demands for change.
Even if we have to go by the CPP's, the NDC's and the NPP's we need to see new faces...fresh faces, dynamic faces, young faces, forward thinking faces, modern minds, policy movers and progressive shakers who can strike a balance and offer a true representation of the rank and file of citizens.
People who know that there is still life after holding state office and wont be in a hurry to stuff their cheeks like squirrels and hide away some loot in anticipation of their pensions.
People who understand that they were chosen to serve and not appointed to lord it over us but as captains of a ship they are meant to work with us steer the ship through turbulent waters to progressive shores.
People who understand that democracy is about power sharing, checks and balances, freedom of information, rule of law and open system of governance where nothing is shrouded in mystery.
I mean what do we have now? NDC this and Proffessor Mills that. NPP bling and Kuffour pow!
Minister this and Embezzlement in tow, Opposition this and hot air ballons on show!
And just when you think it couldn't get any more ridiculous, it just gets interesting.
If Ghanaians want people to be older and been around as long as they can remember before they have faith in them as Abocco pointed out, then more is the pity because they will lose the benefit of our generation and what we have to offer. And yes those are some of the misconception we need to tackle.

Gain some balance
I think it will be more unruly and distorted if another party will emerge and proclaimed. Besides where is the balance on the third thing? If there would be another party, of course that party will embody another rules and principles that may be opposite and contradicting to the other two parties. This will only add for another confusing story and controversies. The Ghana needs today is unity and courage to stand up for its right. They will win if they do have the courage to make their government non-corrupt and lawful. Another political party will only add to those who always make cash advance loans for their personal use and gains.
Maybe yes, maybe not TannerP
I see where you're coming from TannerP, but that is like saying that there is no hope of change ever happening so better to stick with the devils we know right? Well, there's a part of me that wants to agree with that but on condition that they are willing to work together and open up as reigning party and opposition respectively. I think we are all agreed that it takes these two to tango in governance for progress, but what we are seeing right now is not a mutual dance...it is a bull fight.
Moreover, courage and standing up for rights are all well and good in theory but when it comes to practicalities most citizens hands are tied up. Too much power has been vested on just a small group of people too many times and that power has become absolute in the psyche of a nation and getting stagnated so there needs to be a move towards changing that mindset and order of things.
Have you ever wondered why important things like Decentralisation is taking soo long and the right to information is being pulled backwards and forwards like a tug of war competition? It is because it will spell an end to the centralised grip and the mystery and our sort of governance and such developments dont mix well. This is why we need a complete overhaul of the system. Infact It doesnt matter what the banner is. What matters is a new outlook and a fresh approach and that includes bringing in the youth as i pointed out. There is a great imbalance in leadership circles and there is no rule which says that people who are knocking on to 60yrs and beyond are the only ones fit to do so. We do have issues with generation gaps and something needs to be done about it.
As for the 'UNITY' word, i dont remember the last time it came into focus. In Ghana democracy is akin to Party Politics plus Tribalism, divided by corruption, multiplied by misplaced priorities. If you ask me, there is only one way of changing this perception...New Movement Required.

Right Civic move dont you think?
Great to hear that at least a cross section of society recognizes the importance of getting the youth prepared for the future, i am well impressed.
